Assignment 4: Final DesignWOW!! You guys turned in so many great designs!
I gave many of you feedback on your logo designs so far. Your next job is to refine it as much as possible to come up with your FINAL LOGO. It should be cleaned up as much as possible and incorporate the colors and fonts that you want. Also, think about the background color your logo would look best on. Submit your final logo (.Ai file or clean drawing) by Mon June 8 11:59pm. I will then take all of your logos and share them with you. Any logos submitted after this date will not make the showcase. Extra Credit (optional): create a mockup of what your logo would look like in real life (on a t-shirt, sign, product, etc...) You can ask me for more design feedback at any point now until the due date. Lastly, If you do not have access to Adobe Illustrator, but you would like your final sketch turned into a Vector, send me an email with 1. The sketch 2. The colors you would like 3. The fonts you would like used (dafont.com) by Friday 6/5/20 and we will get it Vectorized for you ;-) Assignment 3: Choosing a solution, modeling & PrototypingWe will now all split into two groups: Those with access to Adobe Illustrator, and those without.
(A reminder: You can download Adobe apps for free using your school @obps.org email address at creativecloud.adobe.com. If you need help with this, email me at [email protected]) Those who have Adobe access:
Those of you that DO NOT have access to Adobe, here is your assignment:
Open this PowerPoint file and find your company's tab. Tip: Go to View>Slide Sorter and you will see all slides organized by Company Name.
Pick one or two designs that you think would best work for a professional company logo. It does NOT have to be your sketch. You can use someone else's sketch if you wish. As neatly as possible, redraw the one or two logos that you picked. You can sketch with a pencil, and clean up your lines with a black pen. Remember, simpler is often better! Due Dates: Monday June 1 11:59PM: Submit a clear picture of your redrawn logo. Make sure to include the company name. Friday June 5 11:59PM: Completed feedback form (coming soon) assignment 2: brainstormingWatch this YouTube video of Aaron Draplin designing a logo from scratch (16min). He gives you a great (and quick) example of the logo design process that we are using.
The next stage of the design loop is developing the logo through BRAINSTORMING. Developing the logo design concept is where creativity comes into play. Based on your research and investigation, this is where you let your ideas run wild. Most of your ideas should be done on paper to keep your hand free, but you can also test out designs using a computer. It's also a good idea to give yourself breaks between these sketching sessions so you can reflect on the designs and have a fresh perspective on the job at hand which is a crucial part of the process when when designing a logo. Below is an example of brainstorming sketches for the company UKE logo. It was difficult trying to incorporate a lion into the logo while still making it look luxurious… To get around this problem, we can use brainstorming and word association. The thought process goes something like this: Lion > King Of The Jungle > King > Crown > UKE with Crown. Remember that there is no such thing as a bad idea, just bad decisions. Submit your sketches for your company on a sheet of landscape paper, like shown above. If you need additional sheets of paper, you can do use than one. If you have a few favorite sketches, add a star next to them to let me know.
Ask questions if you need any help or inspiration! Due 5/15 Assignment 1:
